Maryland has awarded a combined $4.3 million in federal Community Development Block Grant funding to seven projects across six jurisdictions for fiscal 2027.
The November 4 announcement covers a mix of housing, facility and infrastructure work. Named examples include site preparation and facility infrastructure for veterans counseling and a food pantry at the Diakonia campus in Worcester County; land acquisition for a planned 64-unit senior housing development in Talbot County; first-phase engineering and initial construction for a system-wide overhaul of the Friendsville water system in Garrett County; and roof and HVAC work at the Somerset Manor public housing community center in Harford County.
The $4.3 million is a combined grant allocation, not the total cost of the seven projects. Maryland’s Department of Housing and Community Development administers the state’s CDBG allocation and gives priority to emergency health and safety needs.
Governor Wes Moore and department Secretary Jake Day announced the awards. The state did not publish a common construction start date or procurement schedule for the selected projects in the release.
The next steps will occur at the recipient and project level as jurisdictions complete design, acquisition and construction activities supported by their awards. Contractors should treat each local project separately and verify any future solicitations with the relevant jurisdiction; the state funding announcement itself is not an open bid.
What happens next
Recipients will advance their individual design, acquisition and construction activities; the state did not announce a common project schedule.
