The Federal Aviation Administration has begun deploying its Enterprise Information Display System, a nationwide air traffic control upgrade planned for 435 facilities by the end of 2028.

E-IDS replaces four systems dating to the 1980s at more than 400 FAA facilities. The first installations cover Atlantic City International Airport, Nashville International Airport, Greater Rochester International Airport and data-processing hubs in Atlanta and Salt Lake City.

The system consolidates operational notices, equipment status, weather impacts and other alerts in a secure digital display. FAA also expects it to improve the collection and distribution of pilot reports and notices to airmen. The agency said the rollout will reduce dependence on manual processes and obsolete equipment, including floppy disks.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced the initial deployment. FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said the system will allow controllers to share flight alerts, restricted-airspace schedules and pilot reports across the National Airspace System.

FAA did not disclose the E-IDS program value, vendor structure or a current open solicitation in the November 5 announcement. The next dated milestone is completion of installations at 435 sites by the end of 2028. For systems integrators and airport-technology suppliers, the rollout represents continuing federal modernization work, but the announcement itself is not a procurement notice or contract award.
