Lambda plans to anchor the proposed Red Clay Technology Center Campus in Lowndes County, Alabama, an estimated $33.1 billion data center investment prepared for development by Cloverleaf Infrastructure.
The companies said November 4 that construction is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027 and could take as long as five years. The campus is planned near U.S. Highway 80 and Alabama Highway 21. Lambda expects more than 1,000 construction jobs during development and more than 225 full-time operations, technical and support roles at full scale.
Lambda identified Alabama Power as the planned electricity supplier, subject to regulatory approval. The company said it would cover the power and grid infrastructure needed to serve the facility through upfront commitments. It also plans closed-loop cooling, a local water-conservation partnership and a $10 million community-benefits agreement with the Central Alabama Community Foundation.
The $33.1 billion figure is the company’s estimated project investment, not a financing close or awarded contract. Final design details remain in development. The next disclosed milestone is the targeted start of construction in the first quarter of 2027, while regulatory review of the power arrangement remains pending.
For contractors and suppliers, the announcement identifies a large planned construction program but does not establish an open solicitation. Lambda said it will work with local partners on opportunities for qualified residents and contractors as planning advances.
