FRA Selects 105 Rail Projects for US$2.34 Billion in CRISI Funding
Selections span 45 states and Washington, D.C.; federal awards are distinct from total project costs.
The Federal Railroad Administration announced October 19 that 105 freight and passenger rail projects were selected for approximately US$2.34 billion through its fiscal 2025–2026 Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements program. The selections benefit 45 states and the District of Columbia.
The Department of Transportation says the projects would improve more than 2,000 miles of track and draw over US$1.9 billion in nonfederal contributions. Its highlighted selections include US$43.5 million for rehabilitation of Toledo’s Maumee River swing bridge, US$37 million for northern Maine rail renewal and US$218 million for Wisconsin’s Hiawatha West expansion.
FRA’s program page reports US$2,336,496,202 selected for awards. These are federal funding amounts, not the total capital value of every project or proof that construction contracts have been awarded. The project summaries identify different delivery stages, including development, design and construction. Owners and suppliers should consult the individual selection and subsequent agency procurement notices rather than assume an open bid or immediate start.
