Federal Permitting Dashboard Adds Shellfish and Fertilizer Projects to Transparency Initiative
The October 1 expansion adds Washington shellfish infrastructure and Nebraska’s Project Meadowlark to federal permitting tracking.
The Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council expanded its FAST-41 Transparency initiative beyond mining on October 1, adding projects in shellfish operations and fertilizer manufacturing. The change broadens the industries represented on the federal Permitting Dashboard.
Taylor Shellfish’s project is based in Shelton, Washington. Its review includes a habitat conservation plan for operations statewide and proposed structures in Pierce County and raft platforms in Thurston County. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Marine Fisheries Service is the lead agency.
Project Meadowlark in Gothenburg, Nebraska, is the initiative’s first manufacturing entry. The council describes an integrated fertilizer complex sponsored by J. Westling & Co. with more than US$1 billion in total project investment. The Department of Energy is the lead federal agency.
These are Transparency entries: dashboard inclusion makes federal review schedules and progress easier to follow. It does not itself grant a permit or establish that either project has construction approval. The council’s October 1 announcement is the development date for this brief.
