Developing compact megawatt-class fusion power systems for deployment in orbit.
Overview
Zephyr Fusion is a San Diego energy-technology company developing compact fusion power systems for orbital use. Its concept uses dipole magnetic confinement and the vacuum of space to create large plasma confinement regions without the massive reactor structures required on Earth. Combined with high-temperature superconducting magnets and lower launch costs, the company is targeting megawatt-class power for space data centers, manufacturing, defense, propulsion and human habitats. Zephyr was founded in 2025 by fusion physicists Edward Hinson and Galen Burke and joined Y Combinator’s Fall 2025 batch.
