Force-sensing robotic actuators that measure torque at the joint output.
Overview
Silica develops force-sensing robotic actuators that measure torque at the joint output rather than estimating contact from motor current. The approach is intended to give robots higher-fidelity physical feedback for manipulation, training, laboratory automation, and manufacturing tasks. Its Q Series is open for pre-orders, with production scheduled to begin in January 2027. Founded in 2026 and based in San Francisco, Silica is a Y Combinator Fall 2026 company led by founder and CEO Enrico Milletti, whose prior work includes product design at Apple and engineering at automated-manufacturing company Artefact.
