New York has completed and opened a $19.9 million replacement bridge carrying State Route 28 over the South Inlet of Raquette Lake in the Town of Arietta, Hamilton County. The project includes a new vehicular bridge and a separate multi-use span intended to improve safety and access for people walking and bicycling.
The New York State Department of Transportation said the main bridge is 23 feet longer and 18 inches higher than the previous structure. The new configuration provides 11-foot travel lanes and six-foot shoulders, while the site work also improves canoe and kayak access.
Traffic was maintained during construction, avoiding what the agency said would have been a roughly 90-mile detour. NYSDOT Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez described the project as an investment in regional mobility and public access.
The total project amount is $19.9 million. Federal infrastructure funding provided $14.5 million, according to the state announcement. The federal contribution is a financing component and should not be confused with the full project cost.
For contractors and suppliers, the project is now complete and open, so this announcement is a delivery milestone rather than an open bid. NYSDOT did not identify an additional construction milestone or new procurement date in its October 28 release. Any closeout or maintenance work would require separate official evidence.
