Five Washington state port projects will receive a combined $50,460,845 through the Maritime Administration’s Port Infrastructure Development Program, Senator Patty Murray announced October 27.

The awards span project planning, refrigerated freight handling and repairs that support cargo movement. They cover:

Port of Vancouver: $18 million. Berth 8 dock upgrades and cargo-handling equipment.

Northwest Seaport Alliance: $11,386,845. Bollards and gantry-crane runways at Washington United Terminals in Tacoma.

Quinault Indian Nation: $11 million. A roughly 35,000-square-foot cold-chain freight facility at Westport Tribal Port will include refrigeration, blast freezing and loading facilities.

Port of Grays Harbor: $6,274,000. The Westport Marina Float 15 replacement includes floats, steel piles, an approach pier, gangway and utilities.

Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe: $3.8 million. The Tala Point multipurpose pier award funds engineering, design, feasibility analysis and environmental planning.

For project teams, the distinction between planning and delivery will shape the next steps. A planning grant can support design and project definition before a construction package exists. Other scopes may involve equipment purchasing, marine works or terminal rehabilitation. Contractors and suppliers should track each recipient’s own procurement notices as the projects advance.

Why it matters for the industry

Infraday analysis: the five scopes call for different capabilities, from pier design to refrigerated logistics and marine construction. A single grant total should not be treated as one available contract.
