New York Completes $49 Million U.S. Route 20 Reconstruction in Erie County
New York completed major construction on a US$49 million Route 20 reconstruction in Erie County, including a new Cazenovia Creek bridge and five-lane roadway.
New York announced October 21 that major construction is complete on a US$49 million reconstruction of approximately one mile of U.S. Route 20 in West Seneca, Elma and Orchard Park. The corridor carries more than 25,000 vehicles per day and serves traffic heading to major destinations in southern Erie County.
The project replaced the 1929 bridge over Cazenovia Creek with a steel-girder structure, rebuilt Route 20 between Leydecker Road and State Route 16 as a five-lane roadway, and added drainage, signage and a new signal. A nearby 36-inch water transmission main was also replaced.
NYSDOT reported the project finished on budget and ahead of schedule, with the bridge set to open fully for the October 22 morning commute. Finishing work may continue, but the public milestone is major-construction completion rather than a new procurement.
