New York City Completes Red-Light Camera Expansion to 600 Intersections
NYC DOT completed deployment of red-light cameras at 600 intersections, reaching the maximum currently permitted under state law.
New York City announced October 21 that red-light cameras are operating at 600 intersections across all five boroughs, completing the expansion authorized by state law. NYC DOT says site selection considers crash history and injuries tied to red-light running.
The city reports that red-light running fell by more than 80% at camera locations, while injury reductions were also recorded for rear-end and T-bone crashes. Those results are agency-reported program metrics, not an independent evaluation in the announcement.
Completion of the 600-intersection deployment is an operations milestone for the city’s automated-enforcement network. The release does not identify an additional procurement or expansion beyond the current legal cap, so suppliers should not infer an open solicitation from the program announcement.
