New York Awards Nearly $500 Million Across 106 Water Projects
New York’s first 2026 water-grant installment supports 106 drinking-water and sewer projects with nearly $500 million.
New York’s Environmental Facilities Corporation published the first installment of the state’s 2026 Water Infrastructure Improvement and Intermunicipal Water Infrastructure awards on October 20. The package directs nearly US$500 million in grants to 106 drinking-water and sewer projects whose combined project costs total US$1.4 billion.
The award list includes US$119 million in enhanced grants and US$64 million for lead-service-line identification and replacement. EFC estimates the grants will avoid about US$1 billion in local debt service under current market conditions and support 22,400 construction and related jobs. Those are statewide estimates, not guaranteed outcomes for any single project.
The program spans treatment plants, mains, pump stations, storage, contaminant removal and combined-sewer-overflow work. Individual award amounts are grants, not necessarily total project values; municipalities may still need financing, local matches, procurement and construction approvals.
