Amazon Plans €4.8 Billion for Frankfurt Cloud and AI Infrastructure in 2027
The Frankfurt allocation is part of a broader German investment plan, not an additional €16 billion data-center commitment.
Amazon announced October 20 that it plans to invest €4.8 billion in 2027 to expand the AWS Europe (Frankfurt) Region. The cloud and AI allocation forms part of a broader German investment program of more than €16 billion covering technology, logistics, satellite connectivity and other operations.
The announcement was made at the German government’s Invest in Germany Summit in Berlin. The Frankfurt amount should not be added to the full program as if it were a separate commitment, and the broader figure should not be described as data-center spending alone.
Amazon also says it is opening a second robotics and AI research laboratory in Berlin. For German data centers, the company describes extensive free-air cooling and plans to use harvested rainwater when evaporative cooling is needed. These are company statements about its operating approach and future facilities. The release does not identify individual construction contracts, site-level budgets or commissioning dates for every expansion. This is an international infrastructure update involving a U.S.-based cloud provider.
