Amazon and Wiwynn have announced an expansion of server manufacturing in Socorro, Texas, with nearly 1,000 additional advanced manufacturing jobs expected by the end of 2027.
Wiwynn manufactures and integrates server systems and racks for Amazon’s infrastructure. Amazon says the facility’s employment is expected to exceed 2,500 next year, with further growth to 4,000 at full capacity. The figures are company projections.
The AI buildout extends beyond the campus
A region seeking AI investment should examine the manufacturing and logistics work supporting data centers as well as the facilities themselves. Rack assembly, equipment testing and maintenance create a different demand profile from a construction site.
Infraday perspective: Economic development teams can use a supplier map to connect industrial sites, freight access and training programs to the computing investments they hope to attract. A data center announcement alone does not explain where its equipment will be assembled or serviced.
Infrastructure planning should also separate construction hiring from ongoing factory employment. Each requires its own workforce pipeline, transportation assessment and delivery calendar. Clear definitions make projected benefits easier for communities to evaluate.
What to watch
Follow facility hiring, training partnerships and the production ramp. Distinguish announced job targets from filled positions and installed manufacturing capacity.
