Overview

The Texas Department of Transportation is the state agency responsible for planning, delivering, operating and maintaining Texas’s transportation system. Its work spans highways and bridges as well as public transportation, rail, aviation, maritime facilities, bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, safety programs and broadband deployment in state right of way. TxDOT organizes delivery through 25 districts and specialized central divisions, including construction, design, bridge, procurement, project finance, rail and transportation planning. The agency’s 2026 Unified Transportation Program directs a projected investment of more than $146 billion over 10 years, while current leadership materials report a workforce of more than 13,000.
