West Virginia American Water has started an $850,000 water-main replacement along Old Route 38 and Harding Subdivision Road in Fayetteville.

The utility said crews began work during the week of October 26. The project will replace 3,500 feet of aging pipe with eight-inch and two-inch PVC main between Beckwith Road and Goose Creek Road and along Harding Subdivision Road.

Construction is scheduled for weekdays between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., with traffic restrictions expected during the work. West Virginia American Water targets completion by the end of February 2027 and final street restoration in spring 2027. Customers may experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water or lower pressure during construction.

Scott Wyman, president of West Virginia American Water, described the work as a proactive replacement intended to reduce future service disruptions. The $850,000 amount is the announced investment for this specific project. It sits within the utility’s broader plan to invest more than $129 million in West Virginia infrastructure during 2026, which is not the project’s budget.

The next milestone is completion of the main replacement by the end of February, followed by final paving and street restoration in the spring. The utility announcement identifies active construction; it does not describe an open procurement opportunity or disclose the construction contractor.

What happens next

Main replacement is scheduled for completion by the end of February 2027, followed by final street restoration in spring 2027.
