The U.S. Department of Transportation selected 297 Safe Streets and Roads for All awards totaling $1.013 billion across all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Tribal lands, according to an October 29 announcement and the program’s updated award page.

The package includes 197 planning and demonstration grants totaling about $329.3 million and 100 implementation grants totaling about $683.7 million. USDOT says $335 million supports post-crash care and related trauma-response capabilities, while 10 projects address truck-parking shortages.

Highlighted implementation awards include $28.7 million for Lexington County, South Carolina, covering post-crash care, rail-crossing safety and roadway work across four high-injury networks; $17.5 million for pedestrian improvements at 53 high-risk crossings in Williamson County, Texas; and $13.7 million for roundabouts, turn lanes, drainage, pavement and signal work in Acworth, Georgia.

The selections are federal grant awards, not a single construction contract or universal invitation to bid. Planning recipients and implementation recipients are at different stages, and subsequent design and procurement notices will come from the individual awardees. The federal award amount should also remain separate from each project’s total cost and local match.

What happens next

USDOT provides no common contracting date. Individual recipients will advance planning, grant agreements and implementation on project-specific schedules.

Why it matters for the industry

The award list points to future safety planning and construction activity, but the grants span different stages and do not constitute one open procurement. Federal award amounts must remain distinct from total project costs and matching funds.
