Microsoft Plans Multi-Gigawatt Azure Maia Deployments Starting in 2027
Microsoft plans to scale Azure Maia to multi-gigawatt deployments beginning in 2027, with Maia 300 production deployments slated for that year.
Microsoft plans to scale its Azure Maia accelerator family to multi-gigawatt deployments beginning in 2027, positioning the system as primary inference infrastructure for Microsoft products and services. Maia 200 is already serving production workloads, and Maia 300 is scheduled to begin production deployments in 2027.
Microsoft describes Maia 300 as an inference-first system for long-context, memory-intensive and agentic workloads. A full rack contains 96 accelerators in a stated 167-kilowatt power envelope, with 27.6 terabytes of HBM and 1.7 petabytes per second of aggregate HBM bandwidth. The company projects 40% more tokens per megawatt than leading GPU systems; that is a forward-looking vendor comparison.
The announcement does not identify the facilities, utility arrangements or capital cost for the multi-gigawatt buildout. Those details remain essential to evaluating regional power and construction implications.
